October Men’s Night Summary – The Holy Eucharist

Thank you to everyone who came out last Thursday for Adoration, Mass and Father Nathan Siray’s talk on the Holy Eucharist.  I hope I speak for everyone when I say it was awesome!

I just wanted to direct your attention to a few things:

  1. In case you missed it or wanted to check a detail, Father Siray’s presentation will be available on our website under the link, “Previous Events”.
  2. During the presentation, Father Siray referred several times to Bishop Athanasius Scheider’s book. This book is called “Dominus Est ? It Is the Lord: Reflections of a Bishop of Central Asia on Holy Communion”.
  1. Also, Father Siray made reference to Pope Paul VI’s very beautiful encyclical from 1965 called, “Mysterium Fidei”. It reflects on the centrality of the Most Holy Sacrament in the Church and should be in the lives of all the faithful.  It can be read here: http://w2.vatican.va/content/paul-vi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-vi_enc_03091965_mysterium.html
  1. In addition, it is worth reading “Memoriale Domini”, 1969. Many Catholics today think that the practice of receiving Holy Communion on the tongue while kneeling changed with Vatican II.  This document, which was issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship and approved by Pope Paul VI, on May 29, 1969 emphatically confirms that the practice was not to change.  According to Memoriale Domini:

“… it is thus clear that by far the greater number of bishops feel that the present discipline should not be changed at all, indeed that if it were changed, this would be offensive to the sensibilities and spiritual appreciation of these bishops and of most of the faithful.

“…The Apostolic See therefore strongly urges bishops, priests, and people to observe zealously this law, valid and again confirmed, according to the judgment of the majority of the Catholic episcopate, in the form which the present rite of the sacred liturgy employs, and out of concern for the common good of the Church.”

The entire document can be read at http://www.catholictradition.org/Eucharist/memoriale.htm)

Our next event will be on Thursday, November 19th and our speaker will be Father Antony Sumich F.S.S.P.  The invitations will be going out shortly.  If you are not on our mailing to receive the invitation, please contact us at FatherLacombeGuild@gmail.com.

Thank you and may God bless you.
